3 months of TwoMoons - A glimpse into the future
Dear Community,
TwoMoons is now three months old! Let me celebrate this milestone with a few words and give you some sneak peeks into upcoming events at TwoMoons. 🎉
Let’s start from the beginning. Building communities in the Trading Card Game (TCG) space is more than just a task—it’s a passion. As co-owner of TwoMoons AG, now the leading Trading Card and Board Game store / Bar in Zurich, I’ve witnessed firsthand how crucial it is to lay a solid foundation for a TCG community. Five years ago, in response to the closure of a local store, we established our Magic: The Gathering community, which has now become the heart of TwoMoons. The store is not only a Magic: The Gathering shop but also a general TCG store, a Local Game Store (LGS), and a bar where you can borrow board games and just hang out with friends in a nerdy setting.
Our Magic Weekly events on Wednesdays and the popular Friday Night Magic (FNM) drafts attract up to 80 players who regularly gather in the store to enjoy their hobby. But Magic isn’t all we offer. Our Star Wars Unlimited (SWU) tournaments on Thursdays and Sundays are also gaining a solid fan base, helped by the sci-fi theme of our store, which creates the perfect backdrop for games like SWU. The venue has space for nearly 100 players, meaning there’s plenty of room for other communities to grow.
With our innovative bar concept, we can keep the doors open during off-peak hours, and on weekends, you’ll find us hosting events during prime – game - time. This makes us a pioneer (pun intended) in the TCG scene.
But we’re just getting started. Over the past few months, we’ve also begun developing communities for One Piece, Lorcana, and Yu-Gi-Oh!. Excitingly, we’re now officially listed as a Yu-Gi-Oh! OTS Store, which means we can host official tournaments. These games still require some community building to establish regular weekly events, but the foundation has been laid.
Looking ahead, we’re also planning to introduce Flesh and Blood and Pokémon to our lineup. We aim to create communities for these games and provide the ultimate gaming experience for their fans.
Building a community isn’t just about contacting the publisher to run tournaments and buying stock—it also involves clear communication, marketing, and careful planning. We need to identify the right players and connect with the community so that they bring their friends along to share their hobbies. Our team members also immerse themselves in the game mechanics so they can explain the rules and resolve judge calls. This takes time, and as mentioned before—passion—and I can assure you, everyone at TwoMoons has that passion in their blood.
What sets us apart is not just our selection or shop design. 3D printing is one of our strengths, too. We produce accessories, tokens, and even the furniture for our bar. This attention to detail showcases our dedication and love for what we do—something you’ll feel every day when Edu talks passionately about the best sleeves on the market, Thies perfectly organizes the tournaments of the upcoming week in every creative way imaginable, Andy works on the coolest menu in the world, Laura finesses the decoration, Tobi perfects the webshop, and when I write yet another blog.
With passion and innovation, we’re working daily to foster and expand Zurich’s TCG and board game scene. As the Trading Card Game Bar in Zurich, we’re proud to host a vibrant and growing community. Whether it’s Magic: The Gathering, Star Wars Unlimited, Yu-Gi-Oh!, or soon Pokémon, Flesh and Blood, One Piece, and Lorcana or also Tabletop Games like Warhammer and Middle Earth—TwoMoons is where everyone finds their battlefield and community to make the most out of every game.
