For many years, the galaxy was a peaceful place. After the merciless war between Terrans and the Hegemony, all major space-faring species have gone to great lengths to prevent a repeat of events. Nevertheless, tensions are growing among the seven major species and within the Galactic Council. A confrontation seems inevitable. In Eclipse, players become the leaders of huge, interstellar civilizations and wrestle with their rivals for supremacy of the galaxy in eight rounds. In each round, players expand their civilization by exploring and colonizing new space sectors, researching technologies and expanding their space fleet. After the eighth round, the player who has scored the most points by winning battles, diplomatic alliances, control of sectors and monoliths, discoveries and technological achievements wins.
