Wingspan is a competitive, medium-weight, card-driven, engine-building board game from Stonemaier Games. Designed by Elizabeth Hargrave, it showcases the beauty of avian diversity with over 170 bird illustrations by Beth Sobel, Natalia Rojas, and Ana Maria Martinez. Players take on the roles of bird enthusiasts—be it researchers, bird watchers, ornithologists, or collectors—each aiming to discover and attract the most magnificent birds to their network of wildlife preserves. Each bird that players add to their habitats activates a chain of potent combinations in one of their actions. These habitats are centered around several growth mechanisms:
Acquiring food tokens through custom dice rolled in a birdfeeder dice tower
Laying eggs using colorful egg miniatures
Drawing from an extensive deck of unique bird cards to play
The game spans over 4 rounds, with the player amassing the most points declared the winner. Wingspan combines strategic gameplay with the educational and aesthetic appeal of bird-watching, making it a unique addition to the board gaming world.
